Real-time oil consumption testing is performed with the test engine being coupled to an engine
dynamometer in a test cell suited for Da Vinci Lubricant Oil Consumption (DALOC) testing. These procedures can be
conducted either on site at the customers engine test facility or at Da Vinci's facilities as required.
Such testing services traditionally involve the following tasks for completion:
- Ship test engine, ultra-low-sulfur (ULS) fuel, and DALOC equipment and staff to test location
- Instrument test engine with pertinent thermocouples and pressure transducers
- Setup test engine in test cell, data acquisition system, and fuel system
- Verify engine performance
- Check sulfur background level
- Commence DALOC testing
- Reduce, report, and present DALOC data
- Obtain go/no-go from customer for continued testing
- Teardown engine
- Teardown DALOC equipment
- Return test engine to customer
|
The most basic projects call for a 25-point mapping of the total engine oil consumption. The customer receives visual
and tabular representation of the average oil consumption achieved for 25 different engine speed and load points, as well
as the real-time traces of oil consumption achieved for each of these points. An example of such a basic test is shown
in our Sample Data section.

This data highlights if an engine has an oil consumption issue.
|
The duration for the most basic project varies from 2 to 4 weeks.
